Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. In a lesson on the topic, Mrs. Lamanna’s seventh-grade art students at Trafford Middle School learned about the art components of creating sugar skulls, including form, symmetry, line, shape and color. The students enjoyed making both two and three-dimensional projects.
Cross-curricular education is a component taught in most art classes, and Mrs. Lamanna’s lesson covered art and also the history of the Mexican holiday, which uses the colorful skulls to symbolize death and rebirth.
