Penn-Trafford Names February 2022 “Students of the Month”

The Penn-Trafford School Board and Administration recognized the Students of the Month for February 2022.  Students were selected by their school principals for being exceptional in some way...whether for earning top grades, showing strong leadership, exhibiting kindness, or for some other notable reason.

Ozzy Thompkins is a 4th grader at Harrison Park Elementary School.  Ozzy actively participates in class and demonstrates a strong desire to learn. He approaches challenging lessons with determination, takes pride in improving his scores, and displays outstanding behavior.  He speaks respectfully to adults and peers and is quick to offer help when he notices someone in need.


“The staff at Harrison Park is glad to have Ozzy attend PT,” commented Principal Jeff Swartz. “We are proud of his accomplishments and look forward to his bright future.”

Selina Nguyen is an 8th grader at Trafford Middle School.  She is known by her teachers and peers for being an incredibly kind and empathetic young lady.  


Selina’s teachers offered some comments on her many strengths.  One teacher stated, “Selina is thoughtful, polite, and has a very good work ethic. Furthermore, she is an excellent student who works diligently, doing her best work on all assignments.”  Another teacher added, “She is extremely helpful to adults as well as helpful and accepting of EVERY student.”  Yet another teacher said, “Selina sacrifices her time to help others, is compassionate and is willing to take risks and try new things.”


Selina makes Trafford Middle School a brighter place.

Madison Setzenfand is an 11th-grader at Penn-Trafford High School. She is a member of the Girls’ Basketball Team, Track and Field team, is a founding member of the school’s Environment Club, and is a leader of the Unified Club. 


Madison’s Media Internship teacher, Mrs. Kelly-Garris commented, “Madison is an awesome human being who cares very much for others. She was instrumental in organizing care packages for veterans in local nursing homes. Not only does she care about her local community, but she also cares about the world as a whole. She created a bulletin board for National Human Rights Day highlighting human rights movements over the years.” 


Her English teacher, Ms. Manuppelli says, “Madison is a go-getter. Her excitement and dedication to the subject overflow to others; it becomes contagious.  It is an honor to have her in such an active class as she strives to be her best.” 


Mr. Rocco, her Forensics teacher, stated “Maddy is the best! Just an outstanding young lady.  The work in our forensic science class requires great inquisitive skill while understanding rich content and Maddy combines both very well together.”

 

Her basketball coaches, Mr. Giannikas and Mr. Moio shared the following comments: “Madison has an indomitable spirit and channels positive energy in everything she does.  Maddy is a leader and is always supporting her teammates during practices and games.  Her positive attitude and selfless demeanor are contagious to the rest of our team.”
