Students Complete ‘Grammar Escape Room’

At Trafford Middle School, the 7th-graders in Mrs. Kathy Sekera's Advanced English/Language Arts classes enjoyed a St. Patrick's Day-themed Grammar Escape Room on Friday, March 15. With traditional Irish music playing in the background, students worked in groups to correctly complete or label sentences on task cards, focusing on the categories of parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, and fragments and run-ons.

After correctly completing each task card, students entered the resulting four-digit number onto a Google Form, unlocking a letter. After unlocking all of the necessary letters, they unscrambled them to reveal the secret phrase and escape the room.

“The activity was a great change of pace, was very engaging for my students, and served as a creative review of course content,” commented Mrs. Sekera.  “They enjoyed working in groups and competing against their classmates to complete the challenge.”
