Penn-Trafford Honors Veterans, Military, and First Responders

It has become a cherished tradition at Penn-Trafford School District to honor veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and faith leaders during a home football game each fall. This year’s event, held on Friday, September 19, once again highlighted the district’s appreciation for those who serve.

The evening began with a pre-game dinner at the Warrior Center, located next to the football stadium. Following the meal, the honored guests were escorted to the field, where they were recognized on the sideline during a special ceremony. The Penn-Trafford High School Marching Band performed a medley of U.S. Armed Forces songs along with the National Anthem.

This year’s recognition carried special meaning as five firefighters were honored for their heroic actions in saving the life of a Penn-Trafford student during a devastating house fire last month. Those recognized were Harrison City Lieutenant Brandon Quinn, Harrison City Captain Zach LaVelle, Irwin Lieutenant Louis Scarlett, Irwin Captain Scott Urias, and Westmoreland City Captain. Brad Doshen.

A 10-by-20-foot American flag, provided by Jim Shorkey Auto and suspended by a Harrison City Volunteer Fire Department ladder truck, flew proudly near the Warrior endzone. The Penn-Trafford student section showed its spirit by dressing in red, white, and blue.

The evening served as both a celebration of community and a heartfelt expression of gratitude to those who dedicate their lives to service and sacrifice.
